Celebrating Canada with a 20% discount!

So Canada isn’t perfect. I know.

But we do have a likeable Prime Minister who might (or might not) live up to the hype. We have a completely different immigration policy from the US. We are for the most part, decent people. We are at the forefront of the Environment, Animal Rights and Feminist movements. And we’re lucky to have a vast territory, mostly composed of breathtaking scenery. So I do feel proud to be a Canadian citizen. I’m happy to be able to create here and to see my designs come to life thanks to a Canadian company that treats their employees fairly.

In fact, this long weekend, the factory is closed. All employees have paid holidays and that is very important to me, even if it means that I can’t fulfill orders at the speed of Amazon or other big companies. I don’t mind waiting a little.  Just this past week reading an article on The Guardian about large numbers of women fainting in factories across Cambodia because of their working conditions, stopped me from buying Nike shoes. I don’t think I will ever own another pair in my life. The only pair I own, I bought eight years ago.

The changes we make are gradual, you don’t have to change completely, but small gestures do add up. By making my leggings here in Montreal I am happy to contribute to fair worker conditions.

I have more ambitious goals, I want to embrace the slow fashion movement by purchasing one-of-a-kind pieces that will last and not purchasing clothes from brands whose manufacturing conditions are dubious.

Living in Canada allows me to know and embrace these values by meeting people who work daily towards common goals: to protect our environment, to be kind to our fellow humans, to protect the animals. Let’s hope the world’s instability doesn’t change this, however this year, more than ever, I’ve come to understand that our true power lies on our right to vote and our wallets.

To celebrate Canada’s 150 year anniversary, I’m offering a 20% discount on my shop and my Etsy shop (if you prefer Etsy where you can find other goodies by fellow Canadians).  Click on the image to go to my shop! Valid until July 3!
